Hello from Sargent, Texas!
I’m Captain Tony Cantu, owner of Come and Take It Saltwater Adventures, and I’m excited to share my first spring fishing update as the leading authority on offshore fishing charters in Sargent. If you’re looking for the best deep sea fishing experience on the Texas Gulf Coast this April and May, you’re in the right place!

Spring Offshore Fishing in Sargent, Texas: My May & June Strategy

Spring is one of my favorite times to run offshore fishing charters out of Sargent. As water temperatures rise into the low 70s, the Gulf comes alive with action. The weather is warming, the winds are shifting, and the fish are on the move—making this the prime season for bluewater sport fishing along the Texas coast.

Here’s what you can expect, and how I recommend we target the big ones over the next month:

  • Yellowfin Tuna: April and May are peak months for yellowfin tuna off Sargent. We’ll head out to the offshore oil platforms and “floaters,” where these powerful fish are feeding aggressively. I recommend trolling and chunking during the day, and for the adventurous, night fishing at the rigs—where tuna, wahoo, and kingfish hunt bait balls under the lights.
  • Wahoo: Spring is one of the best seasons for wahoo in the Gulf. We’ll target them with high-speed trolling along weed lines and temperature breaks, often finding them in the same waters as tuna.
  • Mahi Mahi (Dorado): These colorful acrobats are showing up around floating debris, weed lines, and rigs. Trolling and casting live bait or bright lures is the ticket for mahi this time of year.
  • Amberjack: The nearshore and mid-shelf reefs are loaded with greater amberjack in spring. These bruisers put up a fight and are a favorite for anglers looking for a challenge. We’ll use live bait and jigs around structure for the best results.
  • Snapper & Grouper: While red snapper season in federal waters opens in June, we can still target other snapper and grouper species on deep reefs and wrecks. These fish are hungry after the winter and ready to bite.

Why Book Your Spring Offshore Charter with Captain Tony?

  • Local Expertise: As the most experienced offshore captain in Sargent, I know where the fish are and how to put you on them. My catamaran is fast, comfortable, and fully equipped for serious fishing and family fun.
  • Prime Location: Sargent is closer to the continental shelf than other Texas ports, meaning less boat ride and more fishing time. You’ll be on the fish faster, maximizing your chances at trophy catches.
  • Personal Touch: I tailor every trip to your group’s experience and goals, whether you’re a seasoned angler or new to deep sea fishing. My goal is to make sure you have a safe, memorable, and action-packed day on the water.
